My Grandad's hands

This week's writing task was a free-verse poem about "my grandad's hands". We practiced using semi-colons, a range of sentence lengths and using vocabulary. Our poems are based on an original poem written by Gary O'connell. I chose to write about my grandad because he was someone very special to me.

My Grandad's hands by Willie

My grandad's hand's

are wrinkly boulders;

his back, sturdy ladder;

his legs, slow branches.

his laugh is a tigers roar;

his voice, tiger's growl

Sleeping

quiet waiting for the bus

My grandad

Is watching over us.

  1. Hi Willie
    I see you've done a couple of cool things in your poem with plays on words; tiger's roar + tiger's growl. I like this because you've shown two sides to your grandfather's personality using the same animal for comparison.
